Dramatic accident on Saturday afternoon in the middle of downtown Graz: A car from a wedding party drove into the guest garden of the popular opera café. A woman (53) was seriously injured.
Shortly after 4 p.m., several police cars, ambulances and fire engines rushed to the Opernring in Graz, just a few meters from Jakominiplatz. There, a car had pulled into the guest garden of the opera house—separated from the street only by the sidewalk! At the wheel: a 22-year-old Grazer.
part of a wedding party
He was a member of a wedding party that honked through the streets in a convoy. When turning off the Girardigasse, the man may have lost control of the vehicle. He crashed into a tree right next to the guest yard and also caught a 53-year-old in the guest yard. Without the tree, there could have been more casualties.
The woman suffered a broken leg and was taken to hospital. The area was cordoned off for over an hour and vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists had to make a detour. According to the police, it is certainly a traffic accident and not a targeted attack.
