Date:

Friday afternoon in the “Pfarrwirt” in Grinzing, the oldest inn in Vienna. Normally, Franz Vranitzky completes his appointments in the “Kreisky-Forum” in Armbrustergasse, but that closed on Friday. We find him in the back room, sitting at a round table overlooking the garden and reading the business section of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. On October 4, the long-serving Chancellor of the SPÖ, he turned 85, looking much younger.
