On the corner of Bundesallee and Spichernstraße in Berlin, an accident occurred today, Monday, in which a cyclist was injured. However, the rescue vehicle called to raise the truck involved in the accident arrived at the injured person with significant delay. That was due to a traffic jam on the A100 caused by a climate protest by “last generation” activists. In a statement, the organization now says it hopes “the state of health has not deteriorated due to the delay”. Great care is taken for “the safety of all participating people”.
The fire service confirmed to state broadcaster rbb24 that the rescue vehicle responsible for lifting the truck that injured the cyclist arrived at the accident site late. He was held up by a traffic jam on the A100. The reason for this was a blockade by climate activists on the Berlin city highway to ask the government to take the first safety measures against the climate collapse.
The “Last Generation” says that “it cannot be ruled out that the delay of the rescue vehicle is due to a traffic jam we caused”: “We are dismayed that a cyclist was injured by a truck today. We sincerely hope that the delay has not worsened her health,” said Carla Hinrichs of the organization.
“In all our protests, the top priority is to ensure the safety of all people who participate. Of course, that also applies to all road users.” The “last generation” pays close attention to the life lanes in their roadblocks.
Spokeswoman Aimée van Baalen adds: “We do not interrupt daily life lightly. We wish that such disruption was not necessary to push the government to take action against the climate crisis. We have chosen this means of protest because all the means previously saved, such as demonstrations and petitions, did not bring the necessary success. The safety of everyone on our roads, also in the future, is the fundamental motivation for our actions. As soon as the government takes the first security measures against the impending climate collapse, we will immediately stop all protests.”
Climate activists continue to block roads by sticking their hands to the roadway, causing miles of traffic jams. This creates resentment among drivers, always keeping the nerves on edge (see video above) – also in Vienna.
