Violent excesses dominated all of Austria on Halloween night: there was fighting and vandalism in several states and countless injured people had to be treated. The police were more than necessary in the evening and night hours.
Remarkable: the frenzy in the Center of Linz. Some 200 young people had caused chaos and destruction there, even fireworks and glass bottles were thrown at passers-by and also at the police officers deployed in large numbers. Particularly frightening: The teens had arranged excessive violence through social media. There were 130 reports and several arrests.
There were also at least two major battles, fireworks attacks and giant whirlwinds catfish (see link box below).
Got nothing sweet, then rebelled
In the state capital of Carinthia Klagenfurt in some places no stone was left unturned. There, too, a group of youths – about 20 in number – rioted in front of a house, damaged a car and rudely threatened the residents of the building. Unbelievable reason: they didn’t get candy after the disguised youngsters rang the bell. Then rocks and bottles flew. A 16-year-old has been identified as the leader and the investigation is ongoing.
There were also wounded in Klagenfurt. Several fights kept the police in suspense. Four women clashed in a bar, a 29-year-old was seriously injured by four people on the university campus and a 30-year-old was knocked down in front of a bar. A total of four people were injured, according to police.
Halloween night arson is in the community cucumber (St. Veit an der Glan district) in the room. A wooden carport caught fire and two vehicles were badly damaged. A resident and witness claims to have seen disguised children or young people near the crime scene. Police are investigating and are looking for more witnesses.

The club manager, who had seen the scene on a video camera, then ran into the riot and used pepper spray on two participants. The 18-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries.

Tear gas was also used at a Halloween party in a hall in Lower Austria. 23 people have suffered Ernsthofen (district Amstetten) Injuries. The investigation into the case is ongoing. “There is a first suspicion,” said a police spokesperson when asked, without giving details. After the hall was cleared, there were about 1,000 people in the forecourt of the hall, and there was a scuffle with three slightly injured people, it said.
