The apartment of a 60-year-old has exploded for reasons that have not yet been clarified. The unconscious man has been taken to the hospital of Wiener Neustadt, he is out of danger. The detectives are investigating in all directions.
Emergency services were presented with a photo of the destruction as they entered the apartment on the first floor of a six-family house in Baumgarten wearing heavy respiratory protection. Broken windows, broken door frames, torn plasterboard, smashed balcony – as if by miracle, the resident survived the gas explosion, to which the volunteer fire brigades of Mattersburg, Schattendorf and Baumgarten were called at 23:33 on Monday. At the same time, an ambulance and a first responder, two ambulances and the police, all reported the smell of gas still coming from the apartment.
Emergency services found two gas cylinders at the scene. The one in the living room where the unconscious 60-year-old Croat lay was turned over. Not the one in the kitchen. “From now on, the gas from this bottle must be ignited,” said one firefighter. A flying spark or a simple static charge in the room, which can be caused by turning on a light switch, is sufficient for this.
The unconscious bus driver, who incidentally is a smoker, who according to a resident would have been in a clash with a neighbor, was immediately taken outside by the fire service and taken to the hospital in Wiener Neustadt by the rescue team. The man is out of danger. The other residents were also evacuated – they were unharmed and were able to return home after the gas emergency service measured.
The police investigation of the state detective of Burgenland is currently going in all directions.
