A 17-year-old posed as a doctor in Spain and treated at least two patients, according to authorities. The young man was therefore arrested near Madrid at the end of September, the newspaper “El Mundo” and other media reported Thursday, citing the country’s police and justice system. The suspect has now been released on parole and is awaiting trial, officials said.
The young man is reportedly the son of the operator of a retirement home in Colmenarejo, about 35 kilometers northwest of the Spanish capital. He simply put on a doctor’s coat and misled, among other things, ambulance drivers from a company that works for the mother’s retirement home with false claims. He also called the police and emergency services and offered his medical assistance.
17-year-olds face up to two years in prison
Police officers present during one of the future doctor’s emergency operations in the Móstoles municipality in the Madrid region had grown suspicious and quickly caught up with him. The young man is now charged with misuse of titles and job titles. Spanish law provides for prison terms of up to two years.
