Spectacular accident early Friday in the Tyrolean Unterland: A drunk driver lost control of the wheel in Kirchbichl (Kufstein district), after which he ran off the road and crashed into a noise barrier. The vehicle came to a stop under the guardrail, which was literally bent, totally damaged.
The serious accident happened just before 6 p.m. The 20-year-old Rotterdammer was standing on Loferer Strasse in Kirchbichl when he turned right of the road just before a roundabout.
“The car first hit a guardrail, then hurled into the oncoming lane and eventually came to a stop against the opposite guardrail and noise barrier,” police said.
Florianis approached with angle grinders
The young Tyrolean’s car was first literally cut and then came to a stop under the curved rail. The fire brigade had to remove the guardrail with an angle grinder.
Alcoholic driver with rescue to hospital
The driver, who was said to be intoxicated, was injured. After receiving first aid at the accident site, he was admitted to the Kufstein district hospital. The car was a total loss.
