About 2,500 people in this country are currently unable to work due to prolonged Covid. In the past twelve months alone, the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) had 46,000 absenteeism due to the long-term consequences of a corona infection.
“It is not known how many patients are treated on an outpatient basis because of this, the poor data situation makes it difficult for us to work,” said Andreas Huss, employee representative of the ÖGK. Because the general practitioners (unlike Germany, please note) do not have to enter their diagnoses into the electronic reporting system and the epidemiological databases cannot be linked to each other.
“Possible symptoms include four DIN A4 pages, most are fine after two or three weeks. We only talk about long Covid from six months on,” explains Edgar Wutscher, chairman of the general practitioner practices. Who, like the ÖGK, advocates general practitioners as a point of contact.
Wutscher says about the recording: “Switching from diagnostics to coding is planned separately from Covid-19, a joint solution is being worked on. “International studies show how hard Lung Covid is hitting: a third of those in intensive care units due to an infection are permanently unable to work.
