Consequence for parents – distraction and process after falling from window

Date:

When children like Lorenz (3) from Pettenbach have an accident, it is usually diagnosed on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.

After falling from a window at his grandmother’s house in Scharnstein on Thursday, three-year-old Lorenz from Pettenbach is being cared for at the Neuromed campus in Linz. As reported, the boy himself had opened the window and had fallen from a height of 3.85 meters through the screen on the terrace. Lorenz’s grandmother is now under investigation on suspicion of negligent bodily harm.

mother in court
There have been nine cases of windows in Upper Austria so far this year (there were 19 across the country). On November 29, the mother of two-year-old Zara also had to answer to the Linz Regional Court for negligent bodily harm. On May 25, the Turkish girl fell 13 meters through a window grate on the fourth floor of a residential building onto the concrete basement entrance. Zara suffered multiple fractures.

Notice withdrawn
For now, however, there will be no legal proceedings in the case of two-year-old Mahmoud, who fell from a second-floor window in Linz on July 15. The Egyptian parents were granted a one-year probationary period. “The charges against her have been dropped,” said Ulrike Breiteneder of the Linz public prosecutor’s office.

Girl fell out of window twice
There are also no charges in the case of eight-year-old Marijam, who fell from a window in Engerwitzdorf twice – on June 26 and 29. On June 26, nothing happened to the Iranian child, an eyewitness noted. And the investigation into the incident three days later, in which a hedge slowed the fall and Marijam suffered only minor injuries, is still under investigation.
