Vaccine confused – parents foam: Vaccination diasco at school has consequences

Date:

Because 33 children at the Rif primary school in Salzburg have received a completely wrong vaccine, the parents are very angry. Some of them even want to take legal action now.

The sidewalk just in front of the Rif-Rehhof primary school is becoming increasingly crowded with children. Behind them, their parents nod to each other as they pass, stopping for a short chat. At first glance, it looks like a normal Wednesday morning at Tennengau School.

But if you listen a little closer to the conversations of the adults, you recognize a dominant topic: the failed school vaccination campaign the previous day. “How are you?” shouts one mother to another across the street.

Vaccinated children were too young
The background: 33 second-graders should have received the quadruple vaccination against polio, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. However, the vaccination doctor injected them with a preparation against HPV viruses. However, this is not allowed until age nine – all vaccinated children are significantly younger.

“I think it’s terrible, something like this shouldn’t happen, it’s crazy,” says a mother. Although her child is not affected, she has already decided not to vaccinate her offspring on school campaigns. ‘I’d rather take them to the doctor’, she sighs.

The Hallein district administration was responsible for the vaccination, an old employee probably mixed up the vaccines. The country would be a deplorably isolated case – reported the “Krone”.

Many parents are foaming, some are relaxed
According to the country, there is no evidence that there is an increased health risk for the children. Concerned parents can get information through a hotline. That’s not enough for everyone. “We are considering taking legal action because such a mistake is a joke,” says a father. The patient association has also received questions about this.

In addition, there are also parents who see the cause calmly: “My son is doing well, he has no side effects. Everyone makes mistakes,” says a mother diplomatically. Incidentally, the management of the primary school did not want to respond.
