Sanctions demanded – Iranian foreign minister threatens Germany

Date:

Iran’s foreign minister has threatened the German government with “long-term ramifications”. He had previously criticized Tehran’s brutal actions against the nationwide protests and called for additional sanctions against Iran.

In detail, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) wrote on Twitter on Wednesday: “We stand alongside the men and women in Iran, not just today, but: as long as it is necessary.” against Iran. “At the same time, we are working to ensure that a special session on Iran is held at the UN Human Rights Council and that an investigative mechanism is imposed,” Baerbock wrote.

On Wednesday, the German Bundestag in Berlin discussed a motion to support the protest in Iran with additional sanctions against the government and better protection for refugee opposition members. The SPD, Greens and FDP have submitted the application.

Iran: “Provocative attitude”
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian then accused the German government of “provocative, interventionist and undiplomatic attitudes”. These would show neither cleverness nor sophistication. “Germany can choose to face common challenges – or to face them,” the chief diplomat wrote. Iran’s response will be appropriate and decisive. Damaging historical relationships have long-term consequences.

After the outbreak of the nationwide systemic protests, the tone between Berlin and Tehran has recently turned up. The protests in Iran were triggered by the death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurd Masha Amini. The vice squad arrested her for allegedly violating the Islamic dress code. The young woman died in police custody on September 16. Since then, tens of thousands of people across the country have demonstrated against the government’s repressive course and Islamic rule system.
