The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has upheld an appeal by Atletico Madrid seeking to prevent the partial closure of the stadium, Wanda Metro Politano, following sanctions imposed by UEFA for the Nazi salute of its first captives. The Champions League quarter-final match took place at Manchester City Stadium last Tuesday. Accordingly, the rematch will be held with the maximum capacity allowed in the subway.
TAS responds to our request and temporarily suspends partial closure of Wanda Metropolitano; “All members and fans who have a season ticket or venue for today’s match will be able to access the stadium,” the team said in a statement.
The UEFA appeals body decided to impose sanctions on the Madrid club for “discriminatory treatment” by its fans and ruled that part of the stadium should be closed and should have at least 5,000 seats.
The UEFA size also required the removal of the banner with the slogan “No to Racism”, with the logo of the European Federation. Atletico Madrid have expressed their intention to appeal the sanction in order to at least try to postpone it because it was “completely disproportionate” and “impossible to enforce”.
Fascist greetings among part of the fans of the mattress were recorded after the goal of the Manchester City player, the Belgian Kevin de Bruyne, who was the winner of the match.
