Victims were children – bodies in suitcases – Seoul hands over suspects

Date:

Three months after the bodies of children were found in suitcases bought at an auction in New Zealand, a South Korean court has approved the extradition of a suspect. The woman, in her forties, is suspected of murdering the two children whose remains were found in the suitcases in August.

The Seoul Supreme Court issued the extradition warrant on Friday, Yonhap news agency reported. However, the decision still needs to be approved by the Ministry of Justice. It was initially unclear when the decision should be made.

Woman consented to extradition
According to Yonhap, the woman, who may be the mother of the children, consented to the extradition. She was arrested in South Korea in September. At the time, she allegedly denied the allegations. The suspect is a New Zealander who once held South Korean nationality. The woman is said to have entered South Korea in 2018.

Suitcases were kept for three to four years
The bodies of the children, aged between five and 10, were found in suitcases bought at a clearance auction in New Zealand. According to the police, the suitcases have been in a warehouse for three to four years. The police of the archipelago in the South Pacific had submitted an extradition request.
