With about 200 kilograms of crystal meth, researchers seized what they believe is probably the largest amount of the drug in Germany to date. Detectives were able to gain access to Sinsheim on October 11, the police and public prosecutor in Heilbronn announced at a press conference on Friday.
The drugs from Mexico were hidden in a 24-ton hydraulic press specially adapted to transport the high-purity methamphetamine.
Two suspects, aged 34 and 33, were about to take delivery of the goods, which weighed several tons, on the grounds of a hookah shop when investigators caught the two in the act.
Sales value up to 20 million euros
The press came as a container load from Mexico to Antwerp and was then transported by articulated truck to Sinsheim in the north of Baden-Württemberg. The investigators estimate the street value of the drugs at 15 to 20 million euros.
