Iran issues first death sentence against protest detainee

Since then, thousands have been arrested and hundreds killed. Today, a revolutionary court in Tehran sentenced a person to death for setting fire to a government building during a demonstration.

According to the verdict, which is still subject to appeal, the convicted man was declared an “enemy of God” and found guilty of “burning down a government building, disturbing public order, assembling and conspiring to commit an offense against national security,” the official said. reports from the bureau of IRNA news. The court also sentenced five other protesters to prison terms of between five and 10 years for disorderly conduct.

Since the start of the wave of protests, more than 15,000 people have been arrested, according to the latest tally of the United States-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, also adding to more than 330 deaths, including 52 minors. For its part, the Iranian judiciary has already sentenced more than 2,000 civilians who took part in the demonstrations.
