Euskal Herria’s Pensioners’ Movement, the trade unions and social agents that are part of the Charter of Social Rights and various groups and trade unions have announced that they will join the convergence events which will take place next November 19 in Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Pamplona.

Similarly, they have denounced that the public powers’ alternative in the face of the current systemic crisis is to “accumulate ever greater wealth by impoverishing the working class, abolishing public services, condemning women to unrecognized care jobs and destroy ecosystems”. and the planet’s biodiversity”.

The Charter of Social Rights in October called for mobilization in Hegoalde capitals “against the process of impoverishment and the rise in the cost of life”. Now several social agents have confirmed that it is a joint call.

in addition to the loss of purchasing power fruit of the current salaries and pensions (they emphasize that it mainly affects women), they denounced in a note that society is a direct attack on your rights. As they explained, this brings the exorbitant prices of housing and rent, the deterioration of public services, and a climate crisis that prioritizes the profits of energy oligopolies.

In addition, they have stressed that it is “unacceptable” that while the rights of workers, pensioners or people receiving social benefits are curtailed, “Ibex 35 companies achieve record profits”. In fact, “their profits are up 83% in 2021 compared to 2019”, and in 2022, in the midst of the energy crisis, “these companies continue to break record profits”.

Therefore, against the claim to “divide” society, they invited to fight together, with the following demands: minimum salary of 1400 eurosnail minimum pension worth 1080 euros, end the pay gap of salaries and pensions (representing about 24% in the first case and 37% in the second), a universal public network of social and health services and the immediate stop austerity that take place in the RGI.

For example, they have asked the governments of the CAV and Navarra to do what is necessary to ensure decent public services, pensions and salaries; so that all people, men and women, migrants or racial people, young or old, have access to decent living conditions.

“This is not a simple demonstration,” they concluded, “it is a historic opportunity to meet our most urgent demands. It is time for a radical change of course in the system and thus in the government policies currently being applied.”
