Today, the Minister of Economy and Finance explained the budget project to the Basque Economic and Social Council.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Azpiazustated on Monday that the Basque government’s draft budget for 2023 will ensure that it can “weather the storm and ensure a good arrival at the port”.
Azpiazu today explained the Budget project, which amounts to 14,250.7 million euros, representing an increase of 8.7% compared to 2022 (1,142 million more) before the Basque Economic and Social Council, the Ministry of Finance reported in a statement note.
The adviser stressed that the Basque government’s growth forecast of 2.1% of GDP in 2023 has been “endorsed” by the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF).
“Yes, I would like to point out that the potential growth of the Basque economy before the pandemic was 1.8%, as data to weigh the new figures,” he said before highlighting that “jobs are still being created in the Basque Country, with 12,000 jobs planned for 2023, leaving the unemployment rate at 8.3%”.
For this reason, Azpiazu has called for “a measure of calm, although we are still the weather vanes of a pointless war, the economic consequences of which weigh us all down”.
In his speech, the counsel has detailed the large scope of the already known budget project and hopes to get “the support of the opposition groups”, even if the PNV and PSE-EE have an absolute majority.
