With video of the fire – plumes of smoke and explosions during a major fire

Date:

A serious fire broke out in a machine hall St. Veit on the industrial estate in Carinthia on Monday morning. The employees had to be evacuated.

Plumes of smoke could be seen well into the city of St. Veit Monday morning. In a machine hall, right next to the construction site and the postal delivery base, a fire has broken out due to an unknown cause. “Right from the start it was recognized that it was a workshop fire. The alert level was therefore raised to level 3,” said operational commander Markus Korath.

Accident with a cyclist
On the way to the scene, an accident occurred in which a cyclist was hit by an emergency vehicle. He had to be taken to hospital injured. Adjacent photovoltaic cells on the roof of an adjacent hall in which Hirsch had rented Maschinenbau from Glanegg caught fire and had to be extinguished.

The fire itself broke out due to incorrect operation of the machine, which the LKA is now investigating. The man suffered a forearm injury.

“We heard several loud bangs”
According to eyewitnesses, there were even explosions: “We heard several firecrackers!” The fire brigades of St. Veit, Liebenfels and Launsdorf, Althofen and Feldkirchen were on duty with more than 100 men. “We have the fire under control. It is unlikely that it will spread to other buildings,” Korath further confirms. “However, residents in the neighborhood should keep their windows closed as a precaution.”
