Mondragon Corporation is celebrating its annual convention today, conditioned by the possible departures of ULMA and Orona

Mondragon Corporation is holding its 2022 Congress today, Tuesday, at the Kursaal in San Sebastián, an annual event that brings together representatives of the cooperatives integrated in the group. The congress, which will once again take place completely face-to-face, will start at 10.30 am and will have a technical character regarding the fact that a document will be submitted for discussion and approval on how to “maintain the current relationship and level of cooperation” between Caja Laboral and Mondragon. The other items on the agenda relate to the ratification of the admission of cooperatives, the agreement on the budget of the business center and the financing quota and the management reports of the General Council and the Permanent Committee.

However, the possible departure of Orona and Ulma will mark the appointment, although none of them will attend the congress – it is not the first time -. Both have begun consultations among staff to seek their views. Ulma and Orona are the largest companies in Mondragon’s industrial division, with more than 10,000 employees and more than half of all the company’s profits.

In case of Ulma, based in Oñati, has started meetings last week with the different divisions of the group so that those in charge can present their plan. The same process takes place in Orona. Both cooperatives want to leave the Mondragon group because they claim to have “more autonomy”. The decision will be submitted to the partners for a vote in the first half of December.

At the conclusion of the Congress, the President of Mondragon, Inigo Ucincreate one public statement in which, in addition to appreciating Congress itself, he will invite members to “remain in the Corporation” because that way they will “benefit more.”
