He scared children, teachers and parents on Friday after announcing a shooting at the school under Haselstauden Middle School’s emergency number. The director immediately called the police. Officials from the National Criminal Investigation Department in Vorarlberg were able to quickly locate the caller from Burgenland via the telephone number.

The youngster (16) was found a short time later at his home address. During the interrogation, the boy confessed. He stated that in the days leading up to the senseless campaign he had repeatedly seen reports of a killing spree in America. Out of curiosity he wanted to know what would happen if a massacre was announced in Austria.
In this context, it indiscriminately sought a high school far away from its hometown. During the interrogation, the 16-year-old also stated that he had called several schools. Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember which school that was.
