After the missile attack in Poland, which left two dead, the United States has indications that the projectile is an anti-aircraft missile from Ukraine. US President Joe Biden shared the information Wednesday during a meeting with other NATO and G-7 leaders in Bali. It was an S-300 system missile.
After the explosion near the Ukrainian border in the village of Przevodow, there were initial suspicions that the missile came from Russia. Moscow denied this. A state of emergency has been declared in Poland. Part of the armed forces was put on high alert.
Biden promises further investigation
As it has now become known, it would have been a missile from the S-300 system. This Soviet-designed missile is an integral part of Ukraine’s anti-aircraft system. “I will make sure we find out exactly what happened,” US President Biden promised after a crisis meeting on the sidelines of the G-20 summit. However, the investigation has not yet been completed.
Moscow is still held responsible
Despite the latest findings, the G20 summit said Russia was responsible for the incident in Poland with its shelling of Ukraine – even though it was actually a Ukrainian missile. Polish President Andrzej Duda reacted more cautiously after the incident, stressing that it is not yet clear where the bullet came from. He explained that it was “most likely” Russian-made.
The Polish Foreign Ministry said it was a Russian-made missile. Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau summoned the Russian ambassador and demanded “immediate, comprehensive explanations”.
