Ex-insurance manager Klaus Frölich from the Graz City Health Care Institute (KFA) refunded money for his wife’s spa stay after harsh criticism from the Court of Audit. Instead of him, the Graz ÖVP party leader Kurt Hohensinner should now – at least for the time being – move to the city council of the Styrian capital.
“When I started at the KFA in 2007, it was a completely different health world,” says Klaus Frölich in the introduction to the “Krone”. One day after the failure of management and control at the healthcare institution in the city of Graz became known, the ex-director is trying to limit the damage.
In its most recent report, the municipal audit office, led by Hans-Georg Windhaber, revealed unprecedented mismanagement of civil servants’ insurance (we reported). Frölich was accused, among other things, of invoicing his wife’s spa stay through the KFA, while she was not entitled to any benefits.
“I was shocked that this happened. When I found out, I immediately repaid the amount,” emphasizes Frölich. Not only his wife, but also many other people were wrongly listed as insured, “we have now removed them all.”
Anita Tscherne has taken over the management role at the KFA. Contrary to what was communicated on Friday afternoon, the ÖVP does not want Frölich to be sworn in as a municipal councilor next week: “I would first like to discuss with all parties and explain myself. “Kurt Hohensinner will accept the mandate instead – that gives me time until the next meeting in December,” Frölich told Krone in the evening.
