Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he does not yet know what will follow his main performance at Glastonbury Festival. The festival, which has been canceled in the past two years during the coronavirus pandemic, will return in June with Sir Paul, 79, on Saturday night, on the Pyramid Stage for the second time since a 2004 performance.
Speaking before the festival, Sir Paul laughed at fans and said, “Yes, to be honest, we don’t know exactly what we’re going to do yet, but we’re definitely planning some tricks on our hands. The former Beatles will take the stage a week after their 80th birthday.”
Sir Paul also recalled a 2004 performance at Worthy Farm, when he compared his view of the people to a “medieval battle scene” reported by 120,000 people who gathered on the pyramid stage to watch his performance. “My best memory was the moment we took the stage, when we went there in 2004,” he said.
The sheer size of the crowd, and the banners and flags they all carry, reminded me of the Battle of Agincourt. The Glastonbury crowd always reminded me of a medieval battle scene – it looks so common and it was so exciting to see this worship scene and the special appearance of Glastonbury.”
Sir Paul also revealed that his survival kit was not much different from the packs of most other festival attendees. He said, “If I were in camp, I should have had a toothbrush and toothpaste, we would have a lighter for the fire, a guitar for the campfire song, a proper supply of food and water etc. to flood.”
Glastonbury 2022 also features Billy Eli, Kendrick Lamar and Diana Ross. It will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 22-26.
