To get into the right position, the truck driver steered the crane cage with the two remote workers into the right position. He then pressed the emergency stop, which should ensure that the basket does not receive an electrical impulse and cannot move from its place.
Control made itself independent
Then the unbelievable happened: Powered by a magical hand, the truck’s speed suddenly increased, the stick on the remote control moved forward and the basket rose. For example, he was pressed against the power line and pushed further and further upwards, so that the two men in the basket were also thrown into the air. Luckily they were secured, but the basket was already damaged.
Emergency switch did not respond
The terrified truck driver immediately ran to the vehicle. There’s a second emergency switch there, which he pressed – but it didn’t respond either. “Eventually he was able to park the truck. That worked then,” explains Johannes Martinelli of the Weiz city police. But now it was time to get the employees out of the crane cage. The Weiz city fire brigade came to the rescue and was rescued from a height of 15 meters using a telescopic mast platform.
But why could this happen? “We have to find out first. However, the truck is apparently well maintained and there is also a corresponding inspection sticker,” says police officer Martinelli in an interview with “Krone”. Further investigations are underway.
