Helicopter to clinic – grandfather and grandson (3) seriously injured in quad crash

Terrible accident on Wednesday morning in the Tyrolean Lech Valley: A 68-year-old resident, traveling with his two grandchildren (3 and 6 years old) on a forest trail with a quad bike, came over the side of the road and fell over steep terrain. The grandfather and three-year-old child suffered serious injuries. The six-year-old brother ran to the nearest house and raised the alarm.

The fatal accident happened shortly before 10.30 am in Elmen. The 68-year-old was driving his quad bike on the forest trail in the Mühlboden area with his two grandchildren when he wanted to turn the vehicle in front of a stream bed. “The quad came over the side of the road and fell into the stream bed,” police said.

Walked 1.5 kilometers to the next house
The grandfather and three-year-old grandchild suffered serious injuries in the accident. “The six-year-old child suffered minor injuries and ran approximately 1.5 kilometers to the nearest house, from where the rescue chain was set in motion,” the investigators continued.

After receiving first aid at the scene of the accident, the two seriously injured were flown by rescue helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic. The six-year-old child was taken to hospital in Reutte by ambulance.
