“Hard days” are coming – First snow and millions of Ukrainians without electricity

Date:

The more successes the Ukrainian army achieves on the battlefield, the more intense the Russian airstrikes against the country’s critical infrastructure. Although the Kremlin repeatedly insists that “only militarily relevant targets” are targeted, civilians die every day. According to Ukrainian sources, there were massive power cuts in the country on Thursday. “At the moment, more than ten million Ukrainians are without electricity,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily video message. Meanwhile, the first snow fell in Kiev and other cities.

The local governor warned that the situation could become “difficult” with temperatures as low as minus ten degrees. The state energy supplier Ukrenergo is preparing the population for similar “difficult days”. Power outages would keep coming until the recent damage to transformers could be repaired. The company posted a photo of one of the hits (see tweet below).

The regions of Odessa, Kiev, Vinnytsia and Sumy were hardest hit by the blackout. Explosions of anti-aircraft guns were also heard over the capital Kiev. Four Russian cruise missiles were shot down as they approached the city, the city council announced after the end of the air raid. Five Iranian Shahed-136 combat drones were also intercepted, some over the reservoir north of the capital.

Gas companies and rocket makers struck
Zelenskyj distributed an eyewitness video on Telegram that is supposed to show how a missile hits the road in Dnipro. “Here is further proof of how badly the terrorists want peace,” the president said. According to media reports, Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal said the attack targeted a gas production operation and the missile-building company Piwdenmash.

The Kremlin blames the recent attacks on Ukrainian leaders for their continued refusal to enter into negotiations. “These are the consequences,” said President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
