If you spend your time outdoors in the summer, you definitely need a sunscreen. The Association for Consumer Information (VKI) and the German Stiftung Warentest have investigated 19 products. The results are pretty surprising.
“There were not so much very good sunscreen” in the test, the experts report. Seven of the 19 products tested received the figure “very good”, including three very cheap. Seven products performed well, on average two. Among the three “diarrhea” were two of the most expensive drugs.
19 Sun Protection products were taken under the magnifying glasses with light protection factor (LSF) 30, 50 and 50+, including creams, lotions and sprays in white or transparent. The prices range from two to 19.77 euros for 100 milliliters.
The Sun Milk Products Cien Sun (LSF 30), Lavozon (LSF 30) and Sundance (LSF 50), followed by Nivea Sun Protection & Care Invisible Finish (LSF 50+), Eau Thermal Avène Sonnenmilch Drypch Dryspon (LSF 50) and La Roche Posay Anthelios Transparent Spray (LSF 50+).
Reliable UV protection
Seven funds protect very well and also convinced with other test parameters such as withdrawal, packaging and explanation. Three of the test winners are also very cheap, the other four very good products are in the price in the price. You should not blindly trust any brand, say the proponents of the consumer.
A good – positive – example is the Cien Sun Sun Milk from Lidl, which is one of the best in the test this year. A Lidl product, on the other hand, failed last year. The reason for such quality fluctuations are changes to the manufacturers’ recipe.
Problematic ingredients
In a body spray, the forbidden substance Benzofenon was “in increased concentration,” the VKI reported. The chemical is also on three other agents in small quantities. “Benzofenon is probably carcinogen and can occur when the UV filter is reduced,” said it. This is included in the four affected products. “We therefore advise you to always remove funds with Octocrylas after the season. The benzofenon level can increase when storing.”
Nine funds contain the UV filter DHHB. During production, DI-n-hexylfthalat (DNHEXP) can be made as a by-product of the plasticizers. “In the body it can convert into mono-n-hexylfthalat (mnhexp). Dnhexp was only discovered in a lotion in the test, but the quantities would not be an immediate risk.
“Pack”
A Sun Lotion-Alleen in the test of the natural cosmetics category “offers a very good UV protection, but unfortunately the product is supplied in a Mogy package,” the testers noted: the bottle is only filled with about three-quarters. That is why it was only enough for an average assessment: “We admit that funds with mineral filters in the bottle need a little more space to shake, but not as exaggerated as in this case.”
Protection against skin cancer
The number of skin cancer is increasing, protection offers a good sunscreen with a sufficient light protection factor, was emphasized and recommended: “Cream yourself sufficient, three to four full tips are needed for the whole body. Creams approximately every two hours and always after swimming.”
