The stairwell of an apartment building in Vienna-Alsergrund was heavily smoked on Friday morning: a fire broke out in an apartment, the resident left the apartment door open when she fled, after which the smoke spread. The building was evacuated and two residents were cared for by the professional rescue service.
It was used in the Lustkandlgasse. The emergency services were alerted around 10:45 am. Smoke had entered the stairwell through the open door, so the fire brigade, which was deployed with six vehicles and 27 emergency services, led the residents outside with respiratory protection. At the same time, the fire was extinguished using a pipeline.
Two people were handed over to the professional rescue service, who were able to be released into home care after first aid, APA fire spokesman Jürgen Figerl reported. The cause of the accident was not yet clear at this time
