An Afghan threw a pyrotechnic object at the visitors on Saturday evening during the Villach Advent. But that was not the first attack in the Draustadt.
At around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, a group of five young people found themselves in a fast-food restaurant on the main square of Villach, which was crowded because of Advent. “One of the group, a 16-year-old Afghan, suddenly detonated a pyrotechnic device and threw it into the middle of the crowd,” said a police officer.
Civilian patrols on site
The young people then wanted to flee, but were immediately caught by police. “Since numerous tips and reports have been received in recent days reporting similar incidents in Villach, plainclothes police officers have been on the scene,” said an officer.
Multiple mob attacks
The young suspects are Afghans, Syrians, Russians and Serbs between the ages of 14 and 16. They are suspected of handling fireworks, firecrackers, Bengal fires and the like several times in Villach’s main square in recent days and throwing them at crowds of people.
Witnesses or possible victims are asked to contact Villach Hauptplatz Police Station on 059133-2292.
