After rape – now local chief Höckner must go to prison for 7 years

Date:

Now the last word in the matter has been spoken! The former mayor of Scharten (Upper Austria), Jürgen Höckner, has been sentenced to seven years in prison. That was the decision of the higher regional court in Linz on Monday.

The Linz Supreme Court provisionally spoke the last word on Monday in the case of ex-ÖVP mayor von Scharten and member of the state parliament Jürgen Höckner, who was found guilty of rape. Höckner had initially spent seven and a half years. The guilty verdict is now final. The Supreme Court ruled that the ex-politician must now be behind bars for six months less, so seven years.

Two rapes
Between 2014 and 2016, Höckner sexually harassed an employee twice, raped her three times and – when she finally broke her silence – defamed her. He had filed a report against the employee after she had made accusations against him and had instituted summary proceedings. The ensuing investigations eventually brought him to trial himself.

The prosecution was based, among other things, on a handkerchief with DNA traces of both handed over by the alleged victim. The accused vehemently denied all allegations in the trial and found an intrigue.

Some citizens in Schenten see it that way too. They had held a peaceful demonstration for their ex-mayor on Sunday and find a miscarriage of justice.
