At least five people were killed in a fire in a warehouse in a busy part of the Russian capital Moscow on Sunday evening. Another person is still missing, the state news agency TASS reported, citing civil protection. Seven workers were rescued from the flames.
According to initial investigations, the building on Komsomolskaya Square in Moscow, which housed furniture and flower shops, broke down due to a defect in the heating system of a flower shop. According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCON), the fire raged over a total area of about 2,500 square meters. This reportedly led to the partial collapse of the ceilings between the first and second floors.
According to EMERCON, the fire could only be completely extinguished shortly before midnight. More than 100 emergency services were involved in the extinguishing work. Five bodies were found under the rubble.
