Investigative success for the Styrian and Bavarian police: After the arrest of a German (21) in Graz at the end of December 2022, whose accomplices, acting as fake police officers, wanted to extort a large sum of money from an old lady, detectives in Munich arrested even more suspects.
It all started with an arrest on December 21, 2022 in Graz. The Styrian police could arrested a 21-year-old German who, in his capacity as a “picker”, had tried to cheat two women from Graz (72, 73) with a large sum of money. Before that, he and a colleague had succeeded in tricking women into trusting them as ‘fake police officers’.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (StA) Graz ordered further investigative measures. The knowledge gained from this led the Styrian criminals to Munich. As early as January 2023, German authorities arrested a 24-year-old accomplice there. This suspect, who initially did not confess, has now made a full confession based on the evidence presented to him. According to his information, he and other accomplices traveled to Graz in December 2022 to collect the loot from trick fraud crimes in the state capital of Styria as a so-called “pick-up person”. These “services” were always performed on behalf of lenders.
During the searches in Munich, the German authorities secured important evidence for the StA Graz. They were also supported by the LKA Steiermark. Large amounts of cocaine and marijuana were also seized, as well as stabbing weapons. The two detainees are in the hierarchy of a “picker” (26) and a “logistician” (26).
The secure evidence is now being evaluated. The new findings of the criminal investigation department that have resulted from this will be included in the ongoing investigations of the LKA Styria.
