Knee surgery or not – apparently the only thing that matters for the central station is whether a ride is lucrative enough for the taxi drivers. But taxi passengers in Vienna have many more rights than they think. We clarify.
If a Viennese taxi driver helps a passenger get in and out of the car, puts luggage in the trunk or helps with shopping, he may be friendly, but he has no choice. Because he is obliged to do so according to the Vienna Constitution for the Passenger Car Transport Sector: in Article 11, number 4, to be precise.
It is one of several provisions in the seven-page regulation detailing the rights and responsibilities of taxi drivers and passengers. Very few passengers know them. And some taxi drivers don’t want to know them.
