“Normalize life” – Zelenskyj: 2000 places still to be released

Date:

In Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, about 2,000 towns and villages occupied by Russian troops have yet to be liberated. A few dozen of them – such as the port city of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov or Wolnowacha in the Donetsk region – were completely destroyed by Russian attacks.

Ukraine is trying to return life to normal in recaptured cities quickly, Zelensky said on Tuesday.

His country is therefore grateful for all help with defense and reconstruction. Where the Russian army retreats, it again loots the occupied towns and villages and destroys infrastructure.

The Ukrainian army has so far liberated about 1,880 cities in the nearly nine-month war, said deputy head of the presidential bureau Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

Does Russia fear an attack?
Russia, meanwhile, is building fortifications on the border with Ukraine, for example in the Russian region of Belgorod. The reason for the construction of the line of trenches and anti-tank obstacles was the “tense situation” in the area, regional governor Viatscheslav Gladkov said. Prepare for different scenarios, including ‘pessimistic’. Since the beginning of the invasion, Russia’s Belgorod region has repeatedly been the target of attacks blamed on Kiev. Ukraine has never officially commented on this.
