Country fights against it – staff shortage: 270 hospital beds are blocked in Lower Austria

Date:

About 3.6 percent of hospital beds in Lower Austria are currently empty due to a lack of staff in the clinics. The country wants to continue to counter these developments. What measures have already been taken and what is still needed from the federal government from state politics.

There is currently a massive staff shortage in at least one of the local hospitals. In the state clinic Mistelbach-Gänserndorf, almost every tenth bed is closed because the patients lying there cannot be cared for with sufficient staff. A phenomenon that is also visible in the other hospitals, albeit less pronounced.

The State Health Agency (LGA) confirms that about 3.6 percent of beds are currently unoccupied due to lack of staff. In concrete figures, according to information from “Krone”, this corresponds to 270 beds, which means that Lower Austria is exactly average compared to the other federal states.

Why beds are blocked
According to a report by ServusTV, about 155 beds are blocked due to acute staffing at Vienna’s General Hospital alone. The situation is mirrored in a similar drastic way in the other countries. But why are there any bans at all?
