When emergency services arrived, there were no more participants at the scene, a spokesman for the Lower Austrian executive said when asked. Investigations by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism were ongoing.

“Against hatred in our society”
“I have a great deal of understanding for people’s fears and concerns about the smuggling mafia and illegal migration. But against those people who try to bring their slogans and their hatred into our society or try to prepare the political breeding ground for it, we will use all the means of the democratic rule of law to act,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP ) against “crown” request.

Nevertheless, the EU is currently working with the states along the Balkan route on an action plan to halt illegal migration.
