Negotiations on a new collective labor agreement for railway workers failed on Sunday. For example, as threatened, a 24-hour strike will take place throughout Austria on Monday. A traffic jam on the street, especially in the early morning, is inevitable. The ÖAMTC provides tips on how, for example, commuters and the like can still reach their destination on time and as stress-free as possible.
Huge delays can occur in road traffic, especially in the metropolitan areas of the provincial capitals and in Vienna. Because many working people will want to use the car instead of public transport.
form carpools
The ÖAMTC therefore calls on the formation of carpools. ÖAMTC director Oliver Schmerold: “Anyone who knows someone in the neighborhood, in their community or in the area who has a similar commute should talk and carpool with them on Sunday.”
Short-term parking zones and parking spaces in the garage
There may also be congestion on Monday when it comes to short-term parking zones and parking garages. The club is therefore calling on cities with parking management to largely abolish the short-term parking zones for this Monday. “In any case, supervision of compliance with the maximum parking time must be suspended on Monday,” says Schmerold. Nevertheless, the rule applies to the availability of parking spaces: whoever comes earlier paints first.
use home office
Employees who have the option to work from home should make use of this especially on Mondays to avoid traffic chaos. “We know that after the lockdown experience, many employees now have the option to work from home regularly and with the support of their employer,” says Schmerold.
Drive to Schwechat Airport
The City Airport Train (CAT) from Vienna-Mitte to Vienna Airport in Schwechat and back also does not run on Mondays. However, according to the airport, a rail replacement service must be offered. However, passengers are advised to allow enough time to get to the airport.
