The number of deaths rises – after a landslide: bodies recovered on Ischia

The death toll has risen to eight after the landslide on the Italian island of Ischia on Saturday. The body of a man was recovered on Monday. The search for the victims continued through the night.

Authorities say four people are still missing. Among the dead was a Bulgarian woman living on Ischia and her two children.

The youngest victim is a 21-day-old boy.

The number of women, men and children who became homeless rose to 230. They were housed in hotels on the island.

The Council of Ministers in Rome met on Sunday and called for a state of emergency on Ischia. This is intended to make financing for people who have lost their homes and money for reconstruction more quickly available. According to the media, the cabinet wants to make two million euros available for reconstruction. The Council of Ministers announced that the government intends to adopt a comprehensive plan to combat the negative effects of climate change before the end of this year.
