Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday evening that the local elections, scheduled for March 31, will be his last elections. This was reported by the state news agency Anadolu. “According to the mandate given by law, this is my last election,” Erdogan said.
“The result will be passing on a legacy to my brothers and sisters who will come after me,” he was further quoted by Anadolu.
Erdogan, Turkey’s most successful politician today, has led the country for more than twenty years. The 70-year-old, who has won more than a dozen elections since 2002, was re-elected for a five-year term in the May 2023 presidential election.
