Illegal Pet Trade – Four proboscis dogs rescued from parking lot

Date:

During the Christmas season, the sorrowful business of helpless – and often sick – four-legged friends flourishes. The initiation usually takes place conveniently on the internet, the buyers not even aware that they are supporting the vicious machinations of corrupt animal traffickers.

Again and again, dogs are illegally sold from the trunk in various places. Most are undocumented, seriously ill, much too young, or were kept as birthing machines. Such as “Anna”, “Gerti”, “Flecki” and “Lola”, who would change hands in the parking lot of a shopping center in Lower Austria.

Cruel methods
Three of the approximately one to two-year-old females apparently had their puppies snatched because they still had milk. “Lola”, the fourth in the group, is about to give birth to her offspring. Observant passers-by noticed the situation and called the police and animal welfare for help. After receiving medical care at the Vösendorf animal shelter, the four-legged friends are now looking for a new home as soon as possible.

educational work
Animal corner “Krone” is also aware of the problem: “To combat it, we tirelessly explain how to buy a dog responsibly. We also hold owners accountable by not providing money if the animal comes from the dog mafia or torturous properties to treat. Otherwise the general public will never learn. Nevertheless, the legal regulation must ultimately be precisely formulated,” says animal welfare expert Maggie Entenfellner.

She demands that buyers also be held legally responsible.

What should I do if I see an illegal car boot sale?
Such machinations are especially often observed in parking lots of supermarkets and shopping centers. “When you see something like that, the first impulse is often to scare the animals away themselves. But it is much better not to intervene immediately, but to write down the license plate number and immediately call the police and preferably the nearest animal shelter. In this way, the perpetrators can be caught in the act and the dogs are safely taken care of and cared for,” explains Stephan Scheidl from “Tierschutz Austria”.
