A nationwide horror was caused by the fact that a hunter had stabbed his dog in the woods – but was not prosecuted. The “Kroon” is now filing a complaint.
The “Krone” readers remember this case, which caused waves of outrage. In Upper Styria, a dog is said to have pinched a child. As a result, the father, a hunter, himself imposed the death penalty on the young animal, went into the forest with it – and stabbed it.
An incident that deeply angered even the official hunting team: “He disqualified himself as a hunter, which must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said state hunter master Franz Mayr-Melnhof plainly.
Animal Welfare Ombudsman Barbara Fiala-Köck was as shocked as most. Also: “Has it ever been checked whether the dog might have an illness that caused it to be pinched? Wasn’t his game misinterpreted as pinching, after all it was a young dog? And has anyone ever checked how much dog knowledge the hunter actually has?”
Also: You could have taken the animal to a home or placed it with other people. There would have been a large number of measures – “just killing a vertebrate is definitely not one of them”.
According to the prosecutor’s office, there was no intention
Exactly that seems to have been legitimized during the review by the public prosecutor’s office in Leoben. They stopped the proceedings against the fighter. How are you? “The idiosyncrasy is not given,” the statement reads. “But that’s what criminal law focuses on.”
Fiala-Köck announced to start a trial against the man. The “crown” also shows him according to the Animal Welfare Act. Maggie Entenfellner is stunned. “Such a decision is a license for everyone to do what they want with animals. But it doesn’t work that way – the opposite must be the case. Animal torturers or animal killers should no longer be treated on the gentle cycle and with velvet gloves. Animals are sentient, sensitive creatures. Anyone who injures them or harms them should be severely punished.”
The boss of “Krone” Tierecke also brought the matter to the attention of the Minister of Justice and seized the opportunity to reconsider the jurisprudence. “The way the sentences are with us and the sentences are sometimes out, that is an indictment against the republic. And the Austrians themselves do not want that.”
