Shortly before midnight, the drivers of a car and a trailer were suddenly surprised by two cattle on the northern ring road of Klagenfurt and could no longer avoid it.
A farmer had been looking for the two animals for some time, but it is still unclear how the calf and cow ended up on the A2. “The car crashed into the calf, which was then shot dead by a hunter who could only be reached after half an hour,” said a police officer. “The cow was hit by the trailer and was found dead almost 200 meters from the first scene of the accident.” Both vehicles were badly damaged in the collisions, but luckily no one was injured.
The accident forced the southern freeway to be closed for two hours. “The professional Klagenfurt fire brigade and the highway police searched everything with thermal imaging cameras to see if there were other animals on the road,” the police explain. “Then the highway could be reopened to traffic.” The two dead cattle were brought by the professional fire department for animal body recycling.
