According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces are currently engaged in a “missile breakout”. However, the Russian army used this interruption to prepare new massive attacks.
On the one hand, Russia is looking at which targets are being attacked, on the other hand it is evaluating the effects of previous attacks, Vadim Skibizki, a representative of Ukrainian military intelligence, said on Wednesday. In addition, new missiles would be prepared for use. That just takes time.
Because Russia has used up a large part of its combat-ready missiles, projectiles that were still being built during the Soviet era are now being removed from the arsenals and processed. Many of these old missiles failed to reach their targets at all or exploded on approach.
“Can be used straight off the assembly line”
Yet Russia also uses some modern missiles from the strategic reserve. “We can see from the fragments and debris that the missiles were built this year,” Skibizki said. “That means they come into action right off the assembly line.” Even though production figures have fallen sharply compared to the pre-war period, Russia is still building enough cruise missiles and weapons to be used against Ukraine, thus circumventing economic sanctions.
On Wednesday, Moscow reported successes in recent fighting in Donbass. On the one hand, the village of Andriyivka, about nine kilometers south of the city of Bakhmut, was taken, according to the Russian defense ministry. On the other hand, there is progress in the city of Donetsk. Ukraine had previously announced that an advance of Russian troops had been repulsed. Russian troops have been trying for months to take Bakhmut, which blocks the road to the major cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Separatist units of the Republic of Donetsk, Wagner’s mercenary force and regular Russian troops are deployed there.
Meanwhile, Russian military bloggers reported that Andriyivka was still under Ukrainian barrage. The Russian army also reported a successful attack on Vodyane near Donetsk. This is one of the Ukrainian army-controlled villages on the front line between the cities of Avdiivka and Donetsk.
