It was not only the glinting of the headlights of cars that caught the attention of the drivers on the Wiener Ring on Wednesday evening – a brightly lit box could also be seen in the middle of the row of cars. This is not usual, explains Florian Keusch, press spokesperson for Bestattung Wien: “The driver must have forgotten to turn off the lights.”
Coffins in the transporter are normally unlit. Only under certain circumstances, Keusch explains: “The light in the hearse turns on, among other things, when a home delivery takes place in the dark.” This way the box can be loaded into the car without any problems. . “Rarely is the coffin lit up at night during a funeral procession,” explains Bestattung Wien’s press spokesperson. But there are hardly any funeral processions at night.
Luminous box attracted attention
What many drivers saw on the ring around 6pm is something you don’t normally see every day – and is rather atypical for hearses. Despite many curious road users, the coffin in all its splendor did not result in an accident – just a few photos (see above).
