Now the U-Committee Wien Energie has started. There was a dispute over the witness lists – now the judges have their say.
Exactly at 10 a.m. Judge Martin Pühringer opened the constituent meeting of the Wien Energie Commission of Inquiry. The committee will examine the processes surrounding the billion-dollar support that the city and the federal government grant to the municipal energy supplier.
Requests for chats are still being postponed
No witnesses were heard on the first day of the meeting. This involved clarifying procedures and submitting requests for evidence. A total of 138 were submitted on time. Not everyone was voted. Especially the subject of digital evidence preservation – the ÖVP wants the chats and phone lists of Michael Ludwig and Peter Hanke – were postponed. Everyone involved wants to discuss how to be secured in the first place.
Judges decide on calling witnesses
Now the applications are modified. Still, there was plenty of room for discussion. The newly created minorities law is also being applied for the first time. Because when it came to the list of witnesses, the factional consensus quickly came to an end. Mayor Michael Ludwig, alderman Peter Hanke or former mayor Michael Häupl and his right-hand man at the time, Renate Brauner, are fixed.
The opposition would also have liked to call on the heads of Wiener Linien, the undertakers and other companies close to the city. They are intended to provide information about cash flows. The SPÖ and Neos rejected that. Now the three presidents must decide. In two weeks we will continue with the first expert statements.
