The city of Graz has already announced the conditional ban on the use of so-called heating pads and other outdoor heating devices. However, this only applies under certain circumstances. In the city’s senate meeting on Friday, only city councilor Claudia Schönbacher of the “(Corruption) Free City Council Club” voted against the new regulation. Criticism also came from the FPÖ, which is not represented in the city senate.
The regulation stipulates that such devices may no longer be put into operation in public spaces from next year when the so-called energy early warning level of the federal government is in effect and the alert level for energy-saving measures also applies in Graz. The spokeswoman for the responsible deputy mayor, Judith Schwentner (Greens), assured that the effectiveness of the ban cannot be foreseen at the moment.
There was no information on the city’s website
In the original broadcast on the website of the city of Graz on Friday, there was no indication that the activation of the alert level for energy-saving measures by the city of Graz is a prerequisite for the ban to take effect in addition to the early warning level of the federal government. This caused confusion at first.
At the federal level in late September, the energy cost subsidy for businesses was linked, among other things, to turning off heating pads in outdoor dining areas and store lighting. So there is no conditional, direct ban at the federal level.
