A larger rescue operation took place in an apartment in Vienna-Hernals on Friday evening. A large family had started a fire in a metal container, moments later some family members complained of nausea and one person collapsed.
As a result, a four-year-old boy and two women, ages 18 and 34, had to be taken to a hospital and treated with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. There was no danger to life, professional rescue service spokesman Andreas Huber said Saturday afternoon with the APA.
Neither Huber nor fire spokesman Lukas Schauer could answer the reasons for the fire – for heating or cooking, for example. According to Schauer, the incident happened around 7 p.m. The fire brigade was informed by the rescue service and found an increased concentration of carbon monoxide in the apartment, which contained eight people. Other residents of the house were not in danger.
