SPÖ MP Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek intervened: she held a minute of mourning for the presumed dead Franz Vranitzky in parliament.
Even little kids are drummed into not believing everything on the internet. It was this week in the Social Affairs Committee of the National Council that suddenly everyone present had to stand up. A minute of mourning was spontaneously held for former Chancellor Franz Vranitzky (SPÖ). However, he was home alive!
Former minister and SPÖ member of parliament Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek was caught by a fake message on the short message service Twitter. There, a false profile of Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig (ÖVP) claimed that Vranitzky had died. During the meeting, the fraud was noticed and the politician apologized. But by then our “Punch of the Week” had already had a glitch. Even international media reported on it.
The Italian Tommaso Debenedetti, who has already declared countless personalities dead, is behind the fake user account. Former Chancellor Franz Vranitzky reacted calmly, informing the Bruno Kreisky Forum that the news of his death was just a rumour. He is not angry about the spread of Comrade Heinisch-Hosek’s false report, for him it falls into the category of “wrong”.
