The accidental death of a 26-year-old from Tennengauer in the Salzburger Alm Canal. His Krampus comrades dedicated their run to the young man on Sunday night and mourned in their own way.
It should have been a day of joy. The Niederalmer Krampuses celebrated their 38th birthday. But one of them was missing in the middle of the pass. 26-year-old Stefan, affectionately called “Gärti” by everyone, had a fatal accident on his way home on Saturday night. The young Halleiner drowned after a Krampus run in Grödig in the Alm Canal – reported the “Krone”.
Investigators believe he fell into the bitterly cold current. Even courageous first aiders – one even jumped after the victim – could not save the young man’s life.
Dark fellows ran for their dead “Gärti”
In a first reaction, the Niederalmerpas canceled its planned “Theater der Duisternis” for Saturday evening. Yesterday, Sunday, friends and recent members remembered the Krampus comrade in their own way. “The whole evening is his, we want to dedicate the Krampusloop to him,” explains Krampus president Christoph Zinz. The traditional Niederalmerrun continued as planned, but it was all about the deceased. After the run, the comrades played his favorite song “Adieu” by Rammstein and paused.
The old member’s Krampus larva and bells were already enthroned on the Niederalm. A mourning band adorned the mighty horns of the savage mask. Before that, countless candles flickered in memory.
Opposite the stage, the people of Niederalmer lit a sea of lights for their “Gärti”. Again and again people stopped in front of the photo of the deceased and put candles. A black flag flew in front of the fire station – the popular young man was also engaged as Floriani.
The public prosecutor has now released the body for burial. According to the police, there is no reason for further investigation based on the findings so far.
