Gunmen attacked a mosque in West African Nigeria and kidnapped 19 Muslim worshipers. According to the police, six kidnapped people have been released – 13 people are still held hostage.
The imam and another person were injured and taken to a hospital, a local police spokesman for northern Katsina state said on Sunday. Six believers were released, the 13 other kidnappers were held hostage by the attackers. The police try to free the remaining kidnappers.
“Bandits” in the northwest and in the middle of the move
Numerous criminal gangs known as “bandits” operate in northwestern and central Nigeria. They attack villages, loot them and kill residents. The gangs also attempt to extort ransom through kidnappings. The gangs usually attack schools and travelers.
